Conflicker/downadup Worm detection and removal
The Kent Schools broadband team have identified activity within the network which would indicate several hosts are infected with this worm.

Symptoms that a PC is infected with this worm are:

  • Slow performance
  • Unable to access Microsoft Website
  • Unable to update AV definitions
  • Unable to access websites which relate to security

This worm spreads by exploiting a vulnerability in windows. (MS08-067) PC’s that are unpatched will be vunerable and more than likely become affected.

EIS recommends Schools review all PC’s connected to the network and ensure they are all fully patched and antivirus definitions are up to date.

Personal computers
Microsoft recommends you download the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. Note: This is not a replacement for anti-virus software, rather an additional defence.
