A Smart Table is a multitouch/multiuser table for primary education.

Tom Barrett is a teacher who is using a SMART Table in his classroom. His first post, "SMART Table in my classroom- Days 2-5: Teething Problems" provides some insight about potential problems teachers might face when introducing this sort of technology to students. After using the Smart Table for 3 months now he has again written about his experiences of using this new technology -   "SMART Table in my Classroom - My Conclusions".

You can see two introductory videos, including a tour of the Smart Table here.

As ICT coordinator of a Kent school we have recently installed a Smart table in out 'Learning Street'. I have read Tom's post and support his findings to some extent. However I also believe that the Smart table has potential in a school environment, to help engage children in a new and collborative way. There are problems with the software that make it less than simple to use, nevertheless the table as a tool is exciting and innovative. Multi-touch technology is going to break into the classroom environment and the Smart table is the first of the new technologies which will, I am sure, be commonplace in schools in the not too distant future.
