Social networking sites for parents

In its white paper, Your child, your schools, our future, the DCSF proposes piloting the use of social networking sites such as Netmums and Dad Talk, giving parents the opportunity to meet at the 'virtual school gates' to share advice and information about parenting issues.  What do you think of the idea?

Anything that will actively raise the awareness of social networking in the home, and provides a medium through which parents can increase their knowledge of the sort of ICT oppportunities that are available and accessed by their children, can only serve as a positive way of assisting safe and effective use of social networking.
