Extension of Deadline for disposal of surplus Radioactive Sources in schools. News from CLEAPSS

Colleagues

We have received the following information from the Environment Agency regarding the Surplus source Disposal programme.

For your information we have only received about 58 replies from schools and colleges with surplus sources. We understand that in some LEAs the radiation protection officer is now trying to coordinate replies.

I had a meeting with our legal and procurement staff this morning and we have agreed that we will have to extend the reply date. This is largely because of the legal basis on which we are looking to carry out the source removal work. We need to ensure that as many of the declared sources as possible are included on the list to go out to tenderers in November. This list would constitute the agreed programme.

Consequently we have agreed that we can accomodate replies up to 31 October.
